1. I'm admitted to UI Coeur d'Alene, what do I do now?
Your first step is to meet with an academic advisor who is assigned to you depending on your major/program.  Your advisor will help you plan your coursework and walk you through the registration process.  Each semester, undergraduate students will have an advising block preventing them from registering on-line until they contact their advisor.  Graduate students do not have advising blocks, but it is highly recommended that they check in with a major professor each semester to make sure they are following an approved study plan.  LIst of UI Coeur d'Alene Advisors and Major Professors

2.  When does class registration begin?
Registration for Fall semester starts in early April and registration is open until classes begin in August.  Registration for Spring semester starts in early November and registration is open until classes begin in January.
Registration for Summer semester starts in early April and registration is open until classes begin.

We highly recommend registering is early as possible because classes can fill quickly.

3.  How do I register on-line for courses
After you meet with your advisor/major professor who will assist you in choosing the appropriate coursework, you can register on-line at www.vandalweb.uidaho.edu .  If you have questions about logging in, call us at 208-667-2588.  After logging in successfully, follow these steps to register:

                    • Click on
Student Information / Registration Menu • Next, click on Registration Menu

      • Next, click on Add/Drop Classes

      • Enter CRN's and click Submit Changes button
          Find CRN’s in the

4.  Common Registration Errors:
Undergraduates must contact or meet with an academic advisor before they can register.

When I tried to register, I got an error…now what do I do?

First identify the specific error then proceed to the resolution steps

REGISTRATION ERROR

RESOLUTION STEPS

ADVISOR HOLD

means that your registration hold has not been lifted

Contact your academic advisor or department to lift the hold. If you need advising assistance, contact the Academic Advising Center at (208) 885-9831.

CLASS RESTRICTION

Means the class is restricted to enrollment by upper-classmen only (generally, freshman cannot enroll in upper-division courses – numbered 300-499).

Contact the department offering the class to see if they are willing to waive this restriction and give you a registration override on VandalWeb which will allow you to register.

CLOSED SECTION-WAIT LIST AVAILABLE

means the class is full, but you may opt to place yourself on the wait list in case room becomes available; registration is automatic for most classes when room becomes available.

Put yourself on the wait list by selecting the Wait List action and clicking the submit changes button, also check for other sections of the same class that will fit into your schedule. Your schedule must be able to accommodate the additional credits if space becomes available in the class and you are selected for registration; your name will be by-passed if this is not the case.

Students are sent a courtesy email to VandalMail, notifying them when successful registration occurs.

Wait listed classes are dropped after the sixth day of the semester if registration does not occur.

DEPARTMENT or INSTRUCTOR PERMISSION REQUIRED

means the department is allowing only select individuals to register in class.

Contact the department or instructor offering the class to see if you qualify for enrollment. The department or instructor must enter a registration override on VandalWeb which will allow you to register.

DEGREE RESTRICTION

means that the class is restricted to students seeking specific degree(s).

Contact the department offering the class to inquire about special permission for registering; a registration override entered on VandalWeb will allow you to register.

LEVEL RESTRICTION

means that the class is restricted (generally) to Graduate or Law students.

Check for other classes that are undergraduate level in the same area; contact the department offering course if you need assistance.

PREREQUISITE NOT MET

means that the class has a specific requirement for enrollment that VandalWeb cannot verify that you have completed.

Check the General Catalog for prerequisite definitions; contact the department offering course for waivers; a registration override entered on VandalWeb will allow you to register.

If the on-line registration system is not working for you, please call us for assistance at 208-667-2588 or email cdactr@uidaho.edu

5.  Where will my classes be held?
Most live Coeur d'Alene classes will  be held on either the North Idaho College campus, or in our Administration Building on Hubbard Avenue.  A few days before the semester starts, we usually email out a classroom location list.  Another good reason to check your Vandalmail!

6.  How do I get started in my on-line course?
Usually your instructor will email you via our vandalmail system shortly before the semester starts and give you instructions on what to do next.  It's essential that you check your vandalmail frequently.

7. What types of financial aid are available?
Loans, Grants, Scholarships, Work Study.... financial aid can be confusing!  Check out our financial aid website for an easy explanation of the various types of financial aid.

8. When will I get my financial aid money?

Financial aid is first used to pay for UI charges (credit and lab fees, etc.). If financial aid has not paid all UI charges, you must make arrangements with Student Accounts to pay the remaining balance.  If financial aid has paid all UI charges and there are leftover funds (residual funds), you can opt for a direct deposit to their specified savings or checking account. You may also use residual financial aid and/or scholarships to make deposits on your UI Vandal Card with your billing statement.

When?

Initial direct deposits to bank accounts are disbursed electronically usually on the Friday before the semester begins.   Checks may be picked up from our CDA office during the first week of classes if you have not selected direct deposit for the current academic year.

9. How do I set up direct deposit?
All students are encouraged to sign up for direct deposit of their residual financial aid to their bank accounts. Residual financial aid is the aid that is left over after the billing statement has been paid in full.  It is particularly important for students who are not on the Moscow campus (those at the off-campus sites, on national student exchange or study abroad) to arrange for direct deposit each academic year. The alternative is to make arrangements to have a check mailed.

To sign up for direct deposit of financial aid:
• Go to www.vandalweb.uidaho.edu
• Log in with your ID and PIN
• Go to the “Student Account Information” menu
• Go to the “Direct Deposit Information” menu
• Have your bank account and routing numbers ready

10. Is financial aid available in the summer semester?
Summer financial aid is extremely limited. As a rule, a student's eligibility for summer financial aid is limited to remaining Pell Grant or Direct Stafford Loan eligibility from the previous academic year (for example, Fall 2007-Spring 2008 academic year).  Any scholarships are automatically awarded by the various UI scholarship committees - there are no separate scholarship applications. Campus based federal aid (SEOG, LEAP, Perkins loans, Work-Study) is not available.

To be considered for summer aid a student must -
1. Complete the online application for summer school or complete and submit the paper Summer Financial Aid Application.

  • To complete an online Financial Aid application login to VandalWeb, click 'Student Financial Aid & Scholarship', select the aid year and click submit, then click on the link at the top labeled 'Apply for Summer Semester Financial Aid'.

2. Have a current Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with Student Financial Aid Services.

3. Enroll or plan on enrolling at least on a half-time basis during the summer session, as loan eligibility is contingent upon half-time status (six credits for undergraduates, five credits for graduates and law students). Some students might be eligible for a Pell Grant at less than half-time status.

11. What types of scholarships are available?
New undergraduate students need only to submit a complete admissions application (which includes the Scholarship Supplement Form) and their transcript and test scores to the Admissions Office in order to be considered for merit-based scholarships and out-of-state tuition waivers. No other applications are required. Note: These documents must be received by February 15 to be given priority consideration.

All continuing UI students are automatically considered for merit-based scholarships as long as they are enrolled in at least 9 UI credits (undergraduates), 6 UI credits (graduates) or 10 UI credits (law students) during the previous spring semester. Continuing students do NOT have to file separate scholarship applications.

To be considered for need-based scholarships and federal aid, students must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the US Department of Education Federal Processor. For priority consideration of merit-based scholarships, the Admission Application must reach UI by February 15.

Please note recipients of UI scholarships are required to enroll full-time (defined as 12 credits for undergraduate students, 9 credits for graduate students, and 10 credits for law students) unless the donor of the scholarship funds has indicated to the institution that part-time students are eligible. For award criteria and information specific to particular scholarship awards, contact Student Financial Aid Services.

Incoming graduate students provide all necessary information with the Graduate Application for Admissions; no separate forms are necessary. The application can be found on the Graduate Admissions website.
